According to air traffic control audio, the crew of flight AA1837 told controllers that a mysterious flying disc passed over the aircraft at about 1,300 feet while they were on approach. “There was some sort of, like, flying disc that just went over us at about thirteen hundred feet,” the pilot said over the radio. The controller immediately checked radar but replied, “I’m not seeing any targets on the scope, but I’ll let everyone inbound know,” before warning other incoming aircraft about what the crew had just reported.
After landing safely, the controller asked the pilots if they could describe what they saw. The response only made the situation more puzzling. “I really don’t know. It was black… and that’s it unfortunately,” the pilot said. When asked if it might have been a drone, the pilot replied that it didn’t look like one, estimating the object may have been about “Frisbee or disc-golf sized,” but admitted they couldn’t be sure.
